The Atlas Copco FX HT is a non-cycling refrigerated air dryer built to take hot inlet air. A standard refrigerated dryer is rated for inlet air around 100 F and loses capacity fast above that. Reciprocating compressors without an aftercooler discharge air far hotter than that, and the FX HT is designed for exactly that situation: it carries its own oversized precooler and refrigeration circuit so it can bring hot, saturated piston discharge down to a stable dew point without a separate aftercooler ahead of it.
Who it is for. Shops running 5 to 25 HP two stage piston compressors (80 to 120 gallon units from any brand) that are getting water in the lines, rusting tools or spitting condensate through paint guns. It is also the right dryer when the compressor sits in a hot room or a summer loading dock where a standard dryer would be overloaded every afternoon.
Sizing. Five sizes: 25, 50, 75, 100 and 125 CFM. Match the dryer to the compressor’s delivered CFM, not its horsepower, and go up a size if the compressor runs near continuous duty or the room runs hot. A 5 HP piston at 17 CFM takes the 25 CFM unit; a 10 HP at 35 CFM takes the 50; a 15 HP at 50 to 55 CFM takes the 75. The dryer CFM calculator walks through the correction for inlet temperature and pressure.
Install and power notes. Standard voltage single phase supply, so it plugs in where the compressor already is. Mount it where the condensate drain can reach a floor drain or an oil water separator, leave room around the condenser for airflow, and pipe the compressor receiver to the dryer inlet so the tank knocks out the first slug of water. Put a particulate filter ahead of the dryer and a coalescing filter after it if the air goes to paint or instruments.
What to pair it with. An automatic tank drain on the receiver, a condensate separator for the drain water, and an aluminum pipe drop with a point of use regulator. See the rest of the refrigerated air dryer range and the non-cycling dryers for standard inlet temperature applications. Tell us the compressor model and we will confirm the size.
