The Quincy QPNC is a non cycling refrigerated air dryer sold in 26 sizes from 13 to 3,000 CFM, which covers everything from a 2 HP garage compressor to a 600 HP plant. Non cycling means the refrigeration circuit runs whenever the dryer is switched on, so the dew point holds steady under a changing load and there is no thermal mass to warm up. It is the right choice when the compressor runs most of the shift at a fairly even load, or when the budget favors a lower purchase price over the part load energy savings of a cycling dryer such as the Quincy QED.

Sizing

Each size in the table below carries the compressor horsepower Quincy rates it for, which is the quickest way to pick one: a 13 CFM unit for 2 and 3 HP, 21 CFM for 5 and 7.5 HP, 42 CFM for 10 HP, 64 CFM for 15 HP, 106 CFM for 25 HP and so on. If you know the compressor’s delivered CFM, pick the dryer rated at or above it, then go one size up if the inlet air will run hotter than 100 F or the room is hot in summer, since refrigerated dryers lose capacity as inlet and ambient temperatures rise. The dryer CFM calculator walks through the correction factors.

Power and connections

Sizes through 144 CFM run on a 115 V single phase outlet. 184 to 271 CFM are 230 V single phase. 297 CFM and up are 460 V three phase. Outlets step from 1/2 inch MNPT on the small units to 1 and 1.5 inch FNPT in the middle of the range, 2 to 3 inch on the plant sizes and a 6 inch flange at the top. Pipe the inlet from the receiver tank, not straight off the compressor, so the tank can drop the bulk water and heat first.

What to pair it with

A particulate or coalescing filter ahead of the dryer protects the heat exchanger, and a second coalescing filter after it catches oil aerosol if you spray paint. Put a zero loss drain on the receiver and route the dryer’s own drain to an oil water separator before it goes down the floor drain. See the full non cycling refrigerated dryer range or the Quincy dryer line.
